The Elk River starts at the clear lakes in Elk Lakes Provincial Park near the Alberta/British Columbia border. It flows southwest past the communities of Elkford, Sparwood and Fernie, eventually pouring into Lake Koocanusa. The river is known internationally as an excellent angling river, especially for cutthroat trout.
This lake is actually a reservoir formed due to the damming of the Kootenay River in Libby, Montana. The name is derived from three names: koo from Kootenay River, Kootenays, can for Canada and usa for the United States. Boating, including house boating, is popular on the lake.
The Bull River is situated in the Columbia Valley of southeastern BC and is joins the Kootenay River east of Cranbrook. The river, which originates near the Continental Divide in the Rocky Mountains between Fernie and Cranbrook, is approximately 115 km (70 mi) long and is a popular river for fishing and rafting.
