Mountain Biking in Fernie
from Fernie On-Line

The Elk Valley is quickly becoming one of Canada's mountain biking hotspots. While there are many relaxing country trails in the region, the area's challenging mountainous single track is what everyone is talking about! Here is a sampling of several more popular rides in the Elk Valley:

Cokato Road out towards Morrisey from Fernie is an easy half day pedal as it passes through the pastoral beauty of the valley's farms and ranches.

The Coal Creek Heritage Trail that starts behind the Fernie Aquatic Centre is a moderate ride that leads riders to the ruins of the 100 year old coal creek town site.

At Fernie Alpine Resort, mountain bikers can have their bikes hauled on the chair for an exhilarating all-downhill ride! Single-ride and day passes are available at the resort. The resort is continually adding an excellent variety of trails.

Looking for a challenge. Check out the Ich Bin Sofa Trail by Fernie. Gnarly steeps and technical riding make this a favorite of expert riders. Another favorite is the Scary what's up doc eco-terrorist. Best single track climb to the Ridgemont trail system. A challenging ride up, moderate down. Most riders should walk the appropriately titled Scary section.

Trail maps & information is available at the Fernie, Elkford & Sparwood visitor centres.
